My artwork attempts to capture local landscapes in simplistic and colourful ways. With the use of shape and colour, I try to create work that evokes a sense of place and the wonder that I feel when I encounter the landscape. My paintings are a reflection of the many hours spent outside painting “en plein air” traveling around Canada. Working mostly in oils, I use the small sketches made on location to recreate larger paintings in the studio. This both gives me the opportunity to refine the image, and also the use of imagination to enhance the composition. Out of this process, the works sometimes move toward abstraction while retaining a likeness.

I often get asked about commissions, and yes, I am now taking bookings. Commissions are a custom piece of art, where you will work with me, the artist, to develop an idea and then I bring it to life.
If and when possible I will work “en plein air” but can also work from a photograph or we can sit down and plan out what you’d like.
Commissions can add a meaningful touch to your home, and also make great gifts—a lifelong keepsake that can span generations.
